Our community is at the heart of everything we do. Because engaging and strengthening community partnerships are so critical to preventing and solving crime, we created a number of Chief Resource Councils in partnership with community members.
This helps us work together to address issues, find solutions to community problems and to enhance relationships. These Sub-Councils meet several times a year to discuss various topics unique to each group. They also act as a resource to Peel Regional Police employees on matters related to policy, communications, training, outreach and engagement strategies.
We have the following Chief Resource Councils:
Black Resource Sub-Council |
The Black Resource Sub-Council began as a result of the success we had with the Middle Eastern Resource Sub-Council. An initial meeting was hosted by the Peel Regional Police Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Bureau in May 2015. The vision of this group is ‘A Safer Community Together' and the Sub-Council is committed to the values of inclusivity, trust, respect, understanding, safety and transparency. |
Asian Resource Sub-Council |
The Asian Resource Sub-Council began as a result of the success we had with the Middle Eastern, Black and South Asian Resource Sub-Councils. An initial meeting was hosted by our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Bureau in November 2016. By 2017, the full set membership had been determined and the mission, value and goals were completed. This Sub-Council has a vision of ‘A Safer Community Together' and values trust, respect, understanding, safety and transparency. |
2SLGBTQ+ Resource Sub-Council |
In December 2016, the 2SLGBTQ+ Resource Sub-Council had its first meeting with three community members and six police officers. In 2017, the 2SLGBTQ+ Resource Sub-Council continued to develop relationship as well as adding two more members to the Sub-Council. The Sub-Council vision is ‘A Safer Community Together' and the mission is to bring forward different views and perspectives to positively change attitudes and create opportunities to build stronger relationships between the 2SLGBTQ+ community and our organization. In consultation with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, we have launched the Safe Place initiative in Peel Region. It is a voluntary program designed to assist all victims of hate-motivated crimes or incidents, but more specifically, the 2SLGBTQ+ community by providing them with a safe place and support to report incidents to police. Any business, school or other organization that voluntarily displays the Peel Police Safe Place sticker on their front entrance window is showcasing a commitment to providing a safe place for victims. They also commit to allowing entry to their business to provide shelter and safety and to contact police for assistance. Sign up or learn more about the program. |
Middle Eastern Resource Sub-Council |
The Middle Eastern Resource Sub-Council began in late 2014 as a result of the increased interactions between the Middle Eastern community and the Peel Regional Police Intelligence Bureau and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Bureau. The Middle Eastern Resource Sub-Council was created to assist and be an advisor to the Peel Regional Police. A core group of individuals from the Middle Eastern Community were selected to make up the first Peel Regional Police Middle Eastern Resource Sub-Council. This group has the mission of providing innovative and effective policing to ensure a safe environment to live, work and visit. The vision of this Sub-Council is ‘A Safer Community Together.' |
South Asian Resource Sub-Council |
The South Asian Resource Sub-Council was initiated in February 2016. Through several meetings in 2016, the South Asian Resource Sub-Council created a vision statement, mission, statement of purpose, and terms of reference under which the Sub-Council would function. The vision is ‘A Safer Community Together' and the mission is to support and ensure community safety through proactive engagement between Peel Regional Police and the South Asian community based on trust, respect, understanding and transparency. |
